WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY

Liposuction

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that is aimed at removing stubborn fat on areas that simply do not respond to any gym or exercise. On average the procedure would take 1-2 hours on arms, thighs, chin or hips. 3-4 hours on stomach, back, love handles. (Localised Fat deposits).

Liposuction is a very good way of body contouring and not a weight loss procedure. It is recommended to patients who are already within their BMI range and are only looking to contour their body frame while still maintaining their original weight. For patients who might be overweight, Bariatric options for weight-loss would be best recommended.

PREPARATION AND CONSIDERATIONS

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE SURGERY?

Before your liposuction procedure we will ask for a detailed medical history which will give us a better understanding on how to best manage your surgery.

At this point will be the perfect time to disclose any allergies you may have or medical conditions. Any medication, or herbs being taken at this time should also be disclosed.

Your surgeon may recommend you to stop taking any blood thinning medication or supplements. As your surgery day approaches, you will be prepped for surgery. For smokers, you may be asked to stop smoking at least two weeks prior to your procedure date. This will help in having a less complicated procedure and an easier faster recovery.

You will be admitted into the facility and prepped further, some patients may be admitted a day before their dates for surgical preparation. You will be asked to fill in the consent forms and any other information. This will be an indication that you fully understand the risks and complications of the procedure, that will have been discussed during your preliminary consultation and surgical review. A rundown of the procedure is done from your surgical review. At this time your surgeon will mark areas with lines and circles to outline the areas of fat that need to be removed. We will then take photos before your procedure.

WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE THE SURGERY?

Your anesthesiologist will also have a review with you and speak on what pain management options that will best suit you, during and after your liposuction procedure. At this time we know you are anxious and excited; your big day is finally here! We always communicate on email and phone, always making sure you are prepped for the procedure and to answer any questions you may have.

Our surgical support team will reach out to you a day before with the following instructions.

  1. Not to eat any food or drink 6-7 hours before surgery
  2. Not to have any acrylic nails installed on their fingers or toes
  3. Avoid strong perfumes or applications before the surgery
  4. Come in loose clothing or attire
  5. Have a packed bag of small essentials such as sanitary pads
  6. Be in good positive spirits and ready for the procedure, it really does go a long way!

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE PROCEDURE?

After the surgeon has marked the sites and you both have identified which technique would best suit your body type, the anesthesiologist will make you comfortable and deliver the anaesthesia you both have agreed upon. After you are comfortable and ready to start, your surgeon will then proceed to make small incisions on your midsection. The incision is not more than 3mm.

Tumescent fluid will then be infiltrated into the fat and will settle in for a few minutes. Suction of fat will then start using a specialised cannula. A Liposuction cannula is a hollow tube that is blunt and has been specifically designed to aspirate fat safely under your skin. This process will take 3hrs.

Following your successful procedure, you will be taken to our Recovery Suites where you will be watched until the anaesthesia has worn off.
