Breasts Lift

A breasts lift, also known as a mastopexy, is a procedure to lift and reshape sagging breasts. Skin loses some of its elasticity as we get older, which can make the breasts lose their natural firmness and shape. Along with breast enlargement surgery, a breast lift is an option (augmentation) to give the patient a fuller look.

WHAT MAKES BREAST LIFT SUCH A POPULAR OPTION?

There are so many reasons to opt to undergo this procedure and may vary depending on individual wants and needs. The most popular ones include:

  • Nipple realignment
  • Regain firmness after pregnancy, breastfeeding or substantial weight loss
  • Elevate the breasts and reduce sagging caused by ageing
  • Most importantly, to improve your self image!

IS THE PROCEDURE RIGHT FOR ME?

If you are not entirely comfortable with the way your breasts look, you may want to think about a few different procedures. Before deciding, ask yourself what an ideal desired outcome would look like to you. By raising the position of the nipple, removing extra skin and tissue from the lower part of the breast, and tightening the skin, a breast lift may give the best results.

WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE THE SURGERY?

Before your surgery, our team will be in constant contact with you to make sure all the boxes are checked. Some crucial elements to remember are:

  • Do not eat or drink for 6-7 hours leading to the surgery, otherwise you may not tolerate the anaesthesia well.
  • Avoid strong colognes or perfumes
  • Make sure to have enough comfortable clothes
  • Take off all your piercings and jewellery
  • Remove nail polish and extensions. This is necessary for the medical staff to measure the oxygen saturation in your blood.

You can also attend to minor details like removing contacts and switching to glasses, packing a bag of essentials as well as preparing a last-minute list of questions. Remember, there’s no such thing as being too prepared!

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE SURGERY?

Before committing to the surgery, our team might have certain requirements to ensure your safety during the procedure. These include:

  • Getting medical evaluations and lab tests
  • Getting a baseline mammogram both before and after the procedure to help access the possibility of any future changes in your breast tissue
  • To stop smoking
  • Limit or stop the use of anti-inflammatory drugs, like aspirin

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A PROCEDURE?

There are various methods for removing breast skin and reshaping breast tissue. The location of the incisions and the ensuing scars will depend on the specific technique our trained professionals use. The incisions could be made in one of three places:

  • Around the areola
  • Horizontally along the breast creases
  • From the areolae descending to the breast creases

To reshape the breast tissue, the surgeon may insert stitches deep within the breasts. This is effective in reducing the size of the areolae as well. They will then remove the excess breast skin and readjust the nipples before closing the incision with surgical tape, skin adhesives or sutures.

Following your successful procedure, you will be taken to our Recovery Suites where you will be watched until the anaesthesia has worn off.

HEALING AND AFTERCARE

WHAT TO EXPECT WHILE HEALING FROM THE PROCEDURE

Normally, the procedure takes two to three hours. If you are an outpatient, your surgeon will allow you to be discharged the same day.

As you heal, your breasts will be covered in gauze and you will be advised to wear a surgical support bra following a breast lift. Small tubes may be inserted to drain any extra blood or fluid at the incision sites in your breasts.

During your recovery process, you will be required to wear the bra constantly for three to four days before switching to a soft support bra for three to four weeks.

You’ll notice a change in your breasts appearance right away. Over the coming months, their shape will continue to develop and settle. The initial scars will be red and puffy, which is a normal part of the healing process. Even though scars are permanent, after one to two years they will be less visible.

For roughly two weeks, your breasts will be swollen and bruised and it is common to experience pain and soreness around the incision areas. Your areolae, nipples, and breast skin may be numb for about six weeks. If you have any concerns that your healing might be compromised, make sure to reach out to our medical experts.

ANSWERING YOUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long will the results last?

A breast lift’s results may not always be permanent, but they can last for many years. The shape and positioning of the breasts can change over time due to ageing, pregnancy, weight fluctuations, and other factors.

Are there any dangers or problems with getting a breast lift?

A breast lift entails some risks and potential complications, just like any surgical procedure. These include the potential for infection, bleeding, scarring, and modifications to the breasts’ or nipples’ sensation.

What does the healing process look like?

Depending on the patient and the extent of the procedure, there can be a variation in the recovery time following breast lift surgery. After the procedure, you can anticipate discomfort, which can be treated with painkillers. You will receive post-operative instructions from your surgeon, including details on how to care for your incisions, when to resume regular activities, and how often you should see your surgeon.
