Silicone Breast Implants

If you’re looking for a way to feel more like yourself, silicone breast implants are a great option. Silicone breast implant surgery is an outpatient procedure with minimal risks and minimal recovery time. Silicone is one of the most popular materials used to create breast implants today, and for good reason. It’s durable, long-lasting and incredibly resilient to changes in temperature.

WHAT MAKES SILICONE BREAST IMPLANTS SUCH A POPULAR OPTION?

The durability of silicone makes it far more effective than other materials when it comes to supporting natural movement by promoting fullness while also providing a softness around the implant itself that feels very similar to real skin! This means that there is less need for additional fillers or fabrics like those used in traditional implants.

There are many additional benefits of silicone breast implant surgery, including:

  • The ability to choose the size and shape of your implants based on how much volume you need
  • Better symmetry between the two breasts

IS THE PROCEDURE RIGHT FOR ME?

Don’t worry if you have no idea what breast implants are, or how they work. Asking questions is an important first step before making any decisions, and that’s what we’re here for! If you need help deciding whether this type of surgery is right for you, here are some things to consider:

  • You should be in good health and have realistic expectations about the risks associated with it.
  • Your body may feel differently after surgery—it may even feel different from your old breasts! That doesn’t mean something went wrong; it just means that something new has been added to your life. The newness will wear off eventually if everything goes well.

WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE THE SURGERY?

Before your surgery, our team will be in constant contact with you to make sure all the boxes are checked. Some crucial elements to remember are:

  • Do not eat or drink for 6-7 hours leading to the surgery, otherwise you may not tolerate the anaesthesia well.
  • Avoid strong colognes or perfumes
  • Make sure to have enough comfortable clothes
  • Take off all your piercings and jewellery
  • Remove nail polish and extensions. This is necessary for the medical staff to measure the oxygen saturation in your blood.

You can also attend to minor details like removing contacts and switching to glasses, packing a bag of essentials as well as preparing a last-minute list of questions. Remember, there’s no such thing as being too prepared!

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR THE SURGERY?

In preparation for the surgery, you might be asked by our medical professions or do the following:

  • Get a blood test
  • Take specific medications or change the dosage of your current ones.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Limit the use of aspirin and some anti-inflammatory medications, as they can cause more bleeding.

This will allow our team of experts to identify any allergies or pre-existing conditions that may affect the procedure, remember, your health and safety will always be our number one priority.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A PROCEDURE?

Before performing the procedure, your plastic surgeon will mark out one of three sections where the incision will be made:

  • Beneath your arm
  • Around the nipple
  • The crease beneath your breasts

After making the agreed-upon incision, the surgeon will separate your breast tissue from the muscles and connective tissue of your chest. This will form a pocket behind or in front of the pectoral muscle, the outermost muscle of the chest wall.

The implant will be inserted into this pocket and centred behind your nipple by the surgeon. After inserting the implant, the surgeon will close the incision with stitches (sutures) and bandage it with skin adhesive and surgical tape.

Following your successful procedure, you will be taken to our Recovery Suites where you will be watched until the anaesthesia has worn off.

HEALING AND AFTERCARE

WHAT TO EXPECT WHILE HEALING FROM THE PROCEDURE

Silicone implant breast augmentation is typically done as an outpatient procedure. Typically, general anaesthesia is used during the procedure, so you will be asleep and pain-free throughout.

Depending on the specifics of the procedure, the surgery itself typically lasts one to two hours. You will be taken to a recovery suite following the procedure, where you will be monitored for a short while.

After that, you’ll be able to return home with a friend or relative by your side. As you won’t be able to drive after surgery, it’s crucial to have someone take you home and stay with you the first night.

Don’t panic, like any other surgery, there are some risks associated with breast augmentation surgery.

These may include:

  • Infection and bleeding. Your doctor will use a sterile surgical area and a special tool called an implant tube to place the implant under your breast skin, which means you can be at risk of infection. You may also have some bleeding during or after surgery, depending on how much tissue was removed from your breast at the time of surgery. You may need additional stitches in addition to the ones used during your procedure.
  • It’s also common to experience some swelling, bruising and discomfort around the area where silicone implants were placed inside your body. These side effects are normal due to swelling from anaesthesia medication being injected into each side of the breast

If you have any doubt about your healing process, reach out to our team to have them addressed. Once you have safely made it through the recovery stage, you are ready to enjoy the new you!
